Bride’s Guide to Videography

There are a lot of people out there masquerading as videographers. You see them everywhere you go, and, if you’re like me, you probably have one or two in your family. When it comes to having a video to show your future grandchildren, though, you want to make sure its done by an expert.

Videographers who specialize in weddings should be the only ones you consider. The one you choose should understand wedding ceremonies and know how to be unobtrusive.

The last thing you want is a videographer who causes distractions at inappropriate moments. You and the groom are the stars of the show, not the videographer.

Also, make sure to see examples of the their most recent work. It’s also a good idea to ask for references. Again, you want recent ones. Professional videographers will be accustomed to these requests and have samples and references easily available. If they are hesitant abut providing them, that’s a great indication they aren’t the ones for you, so don’t waste your time on them.

And don’t worry, just keep looking. There are great videographers around. Videos by professional wedding videographers generally come in two types. A documentary style is basically a straight filming of the wedding. The other is a cinematic style that’s more like a movie. The documentary style generally requires little editing and is less expensive.

The cinematic style is more involved, and you may have to do pre-wedding shoots, as well as provide photographs or other material to be used. This type of wedding video can get expensive and time-consuming, but usually well worth it. They also need a great deal of editing. The main thing here is to decide on the style you want and fits your budge, then choose a videographer who can deliver it.

You’ll also want to know what’s included in the pricing packages of several expert wedding videographers. Be sure to find out what the package covers in terms of the number of coverage hours, editing, expenses (especially if travel is involved because most professional videographers will charge you for that) and whether you’ll be getting a VHS or DVD. Know all this upfront, so you don’t have any nasty surprises come payment time.

By following this advice, you will have a video that preserves your special day for years to come. Better yet, you’ll have a video you’ll have one you’re proud to show your friends and family.
